and to add what Scott said:

If you use a ME check the surface often.  If it turns any color other than
white/gray you are removing paint and should stop immediately!  I'd say
"Ask me how I know" but you probably figured that out by now. :)

Straight up 320 grit sandpaper will smooth out those ball trails in a jiffy
as long as you are prepared to repaint the surface...
