[FSPA] CarPool playoff info for 8/14/18

I agree with CJ, and have played in 5 player playoffs previously. I estimate we’ll be done by midnight but not before 11pm. Especially with 4 divisions and long playing games. Combine waitlists with having up to 8 matches going at a time with 9 games, yeah it will be a long night.

I don't think it's quite as bad as you're imagining since all of the games in the semifinals are 2 player, but yeah, that definitely has the potential to be a long night.

May I make a request to the powers that be?

Can you consider changing the amount of people that get into finals after the season ends? I hope this doesn't get dismissed with the reasoning "this is the way it has always been done". The rules are very clear. I am asking if they might be changed with some thought about the length of finals and the time at which they start.

Long story short, tomorrow is going to be a *very* late night.

4 person finals have five rounds. Starting at 8 pm already takes a long time factoring in waiting and machine availability. There have been a few finals where I was absolutely dead on my feet by the time the night ended.

If I understand the 5 person finals rules correctly, tomorrow there will be *ten* rounds of pinball instead of *five*. Semi-finals for all, then Finals for the top 3 players. That means the last 2 people in each group tomorrow don't get to play in the final five rounds. They literally can only sit and wait for everyone else to finish until prizes start.

There are certainly alternative solutions to pinball finals than what is currently listed in the rulebook. Dan Cotter submitted a spreadsheet with alternatives a few seasons ago. However, I know that I am not the person that makes those decisions.

Many thanks! - CJ

How do the playoffs work with groups of 5?

There is both a semifinal and a final round.

In the semifinal round, each participant will play head-to-head games against every other participant (so everyone plays 4 games), earning league points in the usual manner (3-1 unless the winner more than TRIPLES the loser, in which case it's 4-0).

The top three point-earners in the semifinal round move on to the final round, which is played as usual (an all-play, head-to-heads between each player, and another all-play -- so 4 games total again).

The main other "gotcha" is that a player with a game pick may not pick the same machine for a head-to-head game against the same opponent in both the semis and the finals.
