Dan Cotter had some cool mods that didn't look terrible above the out lane guides. They worked really well.

It's still a risky strategy, unless you have it setup with more or less perfect physics so a full plunge around just bounces right in. If anyone does have it set up that way, don't do that. :) If you fail to start video mode, you are in serious jail. Also, a well played right-orbit tree is worth way more points in the end. So it's kind of medium-game strategy - a couple of video modes will probably beat 75% of competitors as Kevin said, but if your competitor does well on a mode tree, you WILL lose.

That being said, it's still stupid and I hate the game for competition. Love it for casual play and theme.

yeah that's right ... I own the stupid thing. i know how to play it. my high score is about 6 billion. but in competition, the best strategy is still "avoid starting modes and play video mode". bleah.

hopefully some new code drops soon.

I tried having David Barber disabling this mode on the Ghostbusters LE at Lyman's, I was there when he tried. It was determined that video mode CANNOT be disabled.

Subject: [FSPA] GB at CarPool (video mode)

Hey folks. Just an idea / suggestion: would anyone be opposed to disabling the Video Mode on Ghostbusters at CarPool? It's really dumb that 90% of the games are won by whoever gets the most video mode skillshots.

There is a lot to do on that game, but in competition, pretty much everyone just goes for Crossing the Streams, and nobody has a particularly fun time doing it. Video Modes are fine, but when it becomes all anyone does on the game for points reasons, I think that's a problem.

It's gotten to the point where some good players have started actively avoiding starting any of the modes on the game, because it gets in the way of playing Video Mode on their next ball. In my opinion, avoiding progress on a pinball machine just so you can play the video mode over and over is an awful, unfun way to play pinball.

I'm not making this suggestion to help myself, by the way. I won group 1 two weeks ago by doing Cross the Streams three times. I accomplished literally nothing else on the game. I don't think I made a single ramp shot or started a single mode.

In my opinion, winning a round of pinball should involve playing pinball.

I would agree with this suggestion if you are taking votes. I would probably lose more than win by this suggestion, but this isnt a video game league.

You should learn to shoot the ramps. Very fulfilling. Really, though, there are other strategies, but it is hard to play much without “accidentally” starting a mode.

I’m thinking this type of change has to be done between seasons. I say that without looking at the preplay list, but really that shouldn’t make a difference.
