[FSPA] VUK Week 0 TODAY and Changes for VUK

Quick reminder that the optional VÜK league Week 0 is TODAY starting at or
around 4:30. Stop by, talk to me, meet the games, do some preplays (***see
below***), and have a slice or two. Week 1 starts June 3rd at 4:30.

Yes, we all read and enjoyed Meet VÜK, Happy Birthday VÜK, and VÜK’s
Surprise. Now comes Changes for VÜK: A Summer Story.

We should all know by now that VÜK is closing soon. This is expected: One
of the reasons VÜK exists in the first place is because the building is
going to be torn down… Lord knows Bethesda needs more mixed-use
retail/residential high rises with luxury units starting in the low 800s.
The current closing date we have is October, but that could change
depending on things outside of our control. And if like Francis you have a
gift certificate for Chef Tony’s, plan on using it soon.

We should also know that the owner, Scott, is opening a new MOMs soon in
College Park and has set aside space for more pinball machines than any
organic grocery store has ever had. I’m reasonably confident that’s a true
statement. Our own Douglas J. Malcolm will be managing that space and signs
indicate that it will be amazing, and you can expect the AC will be top
notch.

That means a couple of things for VÜK. One is that some of the games that
are currently there are going to College Park on Monday, June 4th. The
games that are expected to leave are TNA, Houdini, Medieval Madness, and
Hobbit. They are expected to be replaced by Walking Dead, Wizard of OZ,
Stern Wars, and a fourth game to be determined.

So, here’s what we’re going to do. This is almost certainly the last season
of league play at VÜK. If you are going to be doing normal undated
preplays, focus on the games that are staying. If you are going to be doing
preplays because you expect to miss Week 1, you should consider preplaying
the departing games; however, on Week 1 I’m going to pick from the staying
games first. If you are going to be doing preplays because you expect to
miss Week 2, you should think about coming in the week of the 4th so you
have preplays on the new games.

If any other changes that will affect the league occur during the season,
we are going to remember the words of REO Speedwagon and roll with the
changes.

Apologies for the short notice on the game changes, but I just found out
about it yesterday. 😥
