I’d have to agree with Stephanie on this aspect.

Based on how i read the standings as they are submitted and published to IFPA, final league ranking is based on group order. So if, say, league ended today, Rob WC (as an example) would be above me, even though he only got 3 points yesterday, because he is in a higher group. So that's why i'd consider it an advantage. No?

Where someone misses a whole week without any preplays, then I maybe can understand it since it’s more of a clear effort to sandbag.

Is it? I would generally assume that someone who misses a week without preplays does so because of illness, stuck at work, family emergency, stuff like that. While we encourage everyone to record preplays for just such occasions, some people don't. And even if we didn't do the effective point thing, IMHO it'd be an ill-advised sandbag to intentionally give up an average of 10 league points to drop just one group.

Clearly that’s not what Tim was doing here. He is being rewarded for not playing a game.

How is Tim being rewarded? He received fewer league points than you did -- please remember, effective points are only for calculating group movement, they do NOT count toward overall standings! And by being pushed up a group next week, he will be facing (nominally) more difficult opponents, which may make it harder for him to earn points in that group. Conversely, you earned more league points than he did and will be facing (nominally) easier opponents next week than if you'd been moved up a group.

Not trying to make a huge stink about it but it’s something maybe to think about reconsidering some day....🤷🏻‍♀️

We think about this stuff All. The. Time. :) Always happy to discuss and accept feedback -- on this or any topic! -- but honestly, for this rule, we haven't heard or come up with an alternative that handles all the edge cases and is demonstrably better than the current approach.
