MOM’s playoffs took place on April 8th, and stuff happened! Games were
picked, matches were played, and the Kitty gave forth of its innards to pay
for it all. And the winners got hats, courtesy of Time Peterson of Premier
Amusements.

A Division
#1 Francis Parks - 14 pts
#2 Dave Hubbard - 13 pts
#3 John Mucciardi - 7 pts
#4 George Arfken - 6 pts
A Division was two mighty titans battling for first place, with two lesser
titans fighting for third. John started strong with a decisive first place
finish on AC/DC, but then everybody mooched his points from there (pun
intended) — could not buying yogurt covered almonds before finals have been
a factor? Dave shot 4 pointers in all of his head-to-head matches *except*
the one with Francis, while Francis was getting 3s down the line. In the
final game on JJP’s yoga themed game Pilates of the Caribbean, Dave had to
pull out a 4 and keep Francis to a 2, but some bad luck for Dave kept him
to a 3 point win and Tia Dalma’s voodoo magic allowed Francis to steal a
point from George for a decisive overall victory. Fun fact: Pirates was the
only game where the order pick was reversed because character choice is so
important.

B Division
#1 Rob Thomas, MD - 14 pts
#2 David Jesser - 11 pts
#3 Stephanie Traub - 10 pts
#4 Joe Kenney - 5 pts
The game picks for B were predicted ahead of time: #1 seed Rob picked old
games, and #2 seed Stephanie picked new ones. This served Ms. Traub well on
opener Game of Thrones, but Dr (h.c.) Thomas had a shocking and completely
unheard of score for second place. But it ended up being — as Hubbard
commented during A's final game — all about the head to heads. Especially
heartbreaking was Stephanie’s loss to David by 750K points on Batman 66 —
that’s like 3 slingshots in that game. Rob and David had two wins to
Stephanie and Joe’s one, and that was the foundation that allowed the old
guys to steal points with impunity from the young pups on the final game of
Genie.

C Division
#1 Rick Alokonis - 11 pts
#2 Dan Northover - 11 pts
#3 Baxter Hamilton - 9 pts
#4 Kevin Walton - 9 pts
If A was the Clash of the Titans, C was the Clash of the Tie-tans. After a
tightly grouped game of Genie, the front runners pulled ahead with two wins
apiece largely by beating up on Kevin. Going into the final game on Batman,
it was literally anybody’s game except Kevin’s… but much like the death of
his parents launched Bruce Wayne to become the Caped Crusader, the death of
Kevin’s playoff chances inspired him to a stunning moral victory where he
scored more than his opponents scores combined. When the dust had settled,
the pity points left behind by Kevin allowed rookie season league player
Rick to win overall, other rookie Baxter to take third, and veteran’s
veteran Dan was second.

And if that wasn’t enough we made a new friend! A guy was looking curiously
at our scoresheets as we were playing, and we struck up a conversation
afterwards only to find he was quite the pinball aficionado. Maybe his name
will be in the annals of next season’s playoffs!

And your name could be too! Week 0 of Summer Season starts on Memorial Day,
and we will have a seasonally appropriate selection of games. Hope to see
you there!
