[FSPA] FSPA: Ocelot Results for 06/22/2021 (Meet #2)

This is truly making a mountain out of molehill.

I don’t think moving up or down in the ladder really matters that much. You still have to play to win. Moving up might make someone play someone better, but that same “better” player might move down based on the same rules, so it all evens out. The only group this might really affect is group 1 and 2, and even then the players are near same skill level.

The only real difference or effect is a player’s average ladder spot for divisions in playoffs, and the only impact there is potential sandbagging which the system effectively prevents.

My suggestion to FSPA software gurus is to simply take out the arrows showing movement in groups, and suppress the next week’s groups. Molehill squashed, because it doesn’t really matter other than to league organizer who puts together next week’s scoresheets. And those change frequently day of league anyway with new players being added into groups, and others bailing out, etc.

Who can say in their entire league history that they’ve never played in a group that was different than scheduled? It’s happened to everyone and really doesn’t matter.

All that matters is playing each week against the players in your group, and no one is going to go through any kind of effort to prepare for a certain player they think they’ll play next week. Sure, maybe someone gives it 30 second thought about what game not to pick, but even that doesn’t matter as those games probably got picked already by other groups, or that player ends up in a different group due to game-time group changes.

Once again it just doesn’t really matter…

I'd be happy to give some private lessons, for the right price.

Circling back to this specifically:

Last night in my ocelot group (3).. I got one point and moved down because Ed most didn’t show up and gets two points so he stays in place while joe s. moves up.

Stupid.

Soooo … basically if the rule changed to "forfeits stay in the same group” then in this scenario Ed would ...

- wait for it -

… STAY in the same group and Matt would move down and Joe would move up. Which is what happened with effective points.

So I must conclude that Matt is punking us on this topic.

In the words of Scott, “play better.”

I sure as heck need to play better! Who’s giving lessons? I want some.

I asked about this years ago at vbh there's a reason why you can't just freeze people who don't show. I can't remember why though. Some edge case?

People who don't show up to league should stay in the same group for the next week, unless everyone is absent, then let the evil software do it's nonsense with tiebreakers

Without effective points, how would you suggest figuring groupings for the week following forfeits? Just curious.

Trial by combat.
