MOM's playoffs were held Wednesday, and we managed to dodge COVID outbreaks
to have a relatively smooth finals. First place in each division was
awarded the coveted Tiny Pinball Machine trophy, this season commemorating
the new Rush game from Stern and once again custom built by Kevin Walton.

A Division
#1 Dave Hubbard - 15 pts
#2 Joe Kosack - 12 pts
#3 Barry Schwartz - 7 pts
#4 Justin Williams - 6 pts
The conventional wisdom when playing Dave is to pick 300 or Memory Lane
because of their perceived “luck box” status. But the funny thing is that
this strategy almost always fails, and this time was no exception… Dave
almost rolled the game and yoinked a point away from Justin in the opener.
After finishing second, Joe won all of his head to head matches. Meanwhile
Dave followed up his loss to Joe on Jurassic Park by squarshing Barry and
Justin like bugs. Coming into the final round on (appropriately, given the
trophy they were vying for) Rush, Dave had a one point lead over Joe. But
apparently they were playing in La Villa Strangiato because Justin won,
Barry took second and stole Joe’s point, which gave Dave the win.

B Division
#1 Audrey Bonsignore - 12 pts
#2 Rob Thomas - 11 pts
#3 Roy DeJarnette - 9 pts
#4 Steve Estes - 8 pts
The conventional wisdom when playing Rob is to always pick the latest
Sterns. But since Rob was the #1 seed, that strategy wasn’t an option.
However, a second place finish with a stolen point in the opener on Addams
Family allowed Audrey to cement an early lead after the first round of head
to heads and she refused to let go. The boys were trading wins and losses
amongst themselves, but coming into the final round on 300 the math for
first place was “well, if Audrey gets a 0 and Rob gets a 3 or more…” (which
in my experience almost *never* works out). And it didn’t. Rob did get a 3,
and though Audrey had a lackluster game, it was not lackluster enough to
keep her from victory.

And that’s how it crumbles, cookie-wise. Congratulations to the finalists
and thanks to all for playing in our small but scrappy Spring season.

Week 0 of Summer season is June 1st! And for more Wednesday night pinball
action, come out for the experimental inter-season league starting April
27th and going through May 25th! They will both be fun!
