[FSPA] Silverball Sanctum (Lost Rhino) Spring 2024 Call for Players!

 Hi Rob-
Been good but extremely busy with building a custom house at Lake Anna (with my dream pinball room, finally!).  Everything is custom, so I am swamped with buying every last item in the house like lighting fixtures, recessed lighting, plumbing fixtures, trim, etc., and organizing the electrical situation for the pinballs and 50's diner in the walk-out basement.  About 40% construction complete.  There is a plan, once I get a pontoon boat (likely next year), to host a "Pontoon and Pinball" event for all those who have played in a Silverball Sanctum league like Lost Rhino and the previous Mighty Mikes league.
Hope you have been good.  Regarding Lost Rhino, we would love to have you and Audrey play in the league.  There is plenty of free parking right in front. As far as food, they are one of the few breweries that actually have pretty good bar food, and make a nice Rueben sandwich, along with occasional special additions.  There are also many resteraunts on Waxpool Rd (rt 625) especially in this one strip mall with Mo's and Santinis and others.
But, if you like finer dining AND pinball, my new account is right around the corner, about a mile away as the crow flies, and is called Rai's Rendezvous.  The place is huge with a big wall of TV and music videos, and he other side of the place there is 3 Stern pins.  Guy spent a LOT of money re-doing the place and adding this pretty creative grafitti art work all over the place.  One of the criticisms is that teh place screams a cool bar, but his food is more fine dining with small plates that can be shared.  Cloth wrapped silverware and water glasses on one side of the place, and pinball and bar on other side.  He has taken the criticisms to heart and is adding some more bar type food like pizza and such, for those who don't want the finer dining. Ohh, and its right next to IHOP, too.  So may be a good preface to Lost Rhino for reasons you gave.
I think the league works with the way most of the FSPA rules work, when they switched to a player being able to drop his lowest two nights scores versus preplays (so you can miss two nights for any reason and not impact your scores/standing). If that is not the case and they still also do preplays I will let you know, as I have reached out to last season's manager to clarify.  Anyway, yes I am paying the $40 ($80 in your case) dues because I would really like to have repeat players and once they join they tend to come back season after season as it is a carefully-chosen and searched for variety of great titles of pins ...and a medium sized great group of people that are pretty chill but competitive at the same time.
Let me know if you have anymore questions!  -Roland

How have you been?
Since MOM's isn't having a league for the spring season Audrey and I are very seriously thinking of playing at Lost Rhino this season.  I have not missed a FSPA season since 2012 and would like to keep that streak going.
We really like the 7pm start time and free dues for new players to Lost Rhino helps also.
Does this league do pre-plays?
How is the parking there?  Are there any nice restaurants in the area close by?  We would like to get in the area about 4-5pm to beat the traffic crossing the bridge and eat dinner before the league starts.
Thanks,Rob T

NEW players to the Lost Rhino league will get get their $40 dues paid for by the Operator (Silverball Sanctum).  Should also be noted that the lineup from the start of last season has changed.  First off, very highly rated and rarely seen in the wild "Theater of Magic" made it's appearance at the tail end of last season, and it is a nice example of this table since it has been HUO (Home Use Only) for all of its life save for one year.  "NBA Fastbreak" is back by popular demand and returned tail end as well.  Upcoming new Stern's "JAWS" has been ordered  and is expected, but not guaranteed, based on production schedule, to be out later this month or early Feb.

Good morning Silverball Sanctum (Lost Rhino) pinball league players.

I hope we all enjoyed the holidays and are ready to start our first pinball season of 2024.  We have a few big changes to our format for our leagues this year, please review the changes below and we will listen and evaluate your feedback after this season is over.

The first major change to be aware of is the new official start time is 7:00pm!

The next major change is that I will be the SLO for this season.

Registration

Online registration links are not yet ready, so if you plan on playing at Silverball this season, please email me at edan at fspazone.org and I’ll mark you down as playing.

Schedule

Week 0 is January 31st for meet and greet, and to get familiar with the games.

Week 1 is February 7th.

Start time on Week 1 is 7:00pm.  We ask players to try and arrive by 6:45pm so we can properly account for all players.  We will likely get started around 7:15pm.

Dues

$40 – normal dues

Changes for this season:

There are changes to the league format this season to provide all players the chance to compete and earn a place in the top divisions.  We will be seeking feedback from all players after the Winter/Spring season to evaluate the enjoyment and player satisfaction with these changes.

Summary

All players will have the opportunity to compete for A division placement by playing against random opponents for league points in the initial weeks (balanced to avoid playing the same players more than once). Subsequently, players will be seeded into initial divisions, and our traditional "ladder" movement will resume for the rest of the season.

Details

   - First 4 weeks of league will comprise a random grouping for week 1 followed by balanced random groupings week 2 through 4.  The balanced component will attempt to avoid players playing the same player more than once or twice, depending on the league size.  This will allow players to compete against many players they may not have had a chance to play with in the former format.
   - Week 5 will be grouped based on overall points from best 3 of the first 4 weeks of league (drop the lowest score).
   - Weeks 5 through 10 will continue to use the ladder system, so winning moves a player up a group, and losing drops them down a group.
   - Divisions will be determined at the end of week 9 using the average ladder position, like how divisions are determined now.

Any questions, feel free to reach out directly to me at edan at fspazone.org.

Thanks, and looking forward to this season of pinball at Silverball Sanctum.

-Edan Grossman
