<html><head></head><body>I-99 is comparable in travel time to the turnpike.... It's completely 4 lane highway the entire distance and there are only two short sections that are a 45mph zone. It's almost always overlooked by everyone because 10 years ago it was a horrible choice because of 2 lane highways and sharp turns but they've straightened US22 and made the first section of it a 65mph zone and they've widened the entire route to 4 lane.... Also going through Murrysville and Monroeville they've timed the lights electronically so that you will typically only catch 1 light red (driving the speed limit). Take I70 to Breezewood, PA as you normally would.... when you come into Breezewood turn left towards Everett and take US30 through Bedford.... After Bedford you'll take I-99 North and follow that toward Altoona.... before reaching Altoona you'll take US22 West towards Ebensburg.... US22 will take you clear to Monroeville where you'll get on the Parkway to head into Pittsburgh.<br />

My estimate is that this route is probably 15 mins longer in most cases but regardless there are no tolls and I think it's a much easier drive.<br />
