[FSPA] Our Survey Says...

A couple months ago I sent out a survey about WPPR fees and a possible
day/time change for league at VÜK. I meant to send out the results sooner
than this, but you know how things are…

There were a total of 38 responses. In most cases, I’ve rounded the
percentages to simplify things.

The first set of questions was about the new fees of $1 per player that the
IFPA will be charging in 2018 for tournaments to be sanctioned by them and
get ranking points, or WPPRs.

When asked how they feel about the fees, 50% were OK with them as long as
it is obvious how the league is paying for them, and another 17% shrugged
it off as just a buck. On the other hand, 17% said that they would
definitely not participate if the fees were taken from general dues. The
remaining 16% generally expressed trepidation with the fees and appeared to
be adopting a wait and see attitude.

When asked about paying for WPPRs, about 60% were either fine or grudgingly
accepting of it, 25% were openly annoyed, and 15% were non-commital.

When asked who would be a better target for our ire than Keith Elwin, to no
one’s surprise it was Al Thomka who won with 34%… proving that FSPA/PPL
rivalry is alive and well.

Ultimately, it will be up to individual SLOs to determine how their
location will deal with the fees, and then players considering a given
location can decide whether they want to participate based on that
location’s policy. We will find out how this all plays out in January.

For the somewhat less controversial matter of the VÜK start time, 61% of
respondents were fine with the existing time. 13% wanted it earlier, 13%
wanted it later, and 13% wished there was another option.

The final question was whether respondents would participate in a weekly
tournament. 28% said Yes, 8% said No, and 64% said maybe. We actually used
this data to determine that there was enough interest in a tournament, and
that tournament started and has been drawing 15-20 people a week.

Thanks for the responses!
Rob
