Just to give a little more detail to Rob Thomas' answer ... a smiley face (or, rarely, a frownie brownie face) means that you earned one or more badge(s) this week.  Badges are kinda like "achievements" on many modern video games... there are lots of ways to earn them, based on performance, participation, funny patterns in your scores, playing on certain holidays, and so on.  They can be earned by players of all skill levels... some of them can be earned through deliberate action, while others you'll just stumble into.  They are purely for entertainment value, and have no affect whatsoever on normal league play... so if you think they're fun, enjoy!  (There's also an FSPA-wide badge leaderboard visible on the top-level scorekeeping page at http://fspa.league.papa.org <http://fspa.league.papa.org/>.)  If you don't like them, simply ignore the smilies.

The little flaming icon with a number represents how many weeks in a row a player has won their group (minimum streak = 2)... again, just for fun and bragging rights, no direct impact on the league (although of course, if you've won your group several weeks straight, it's probably a sign you're doing well in league).
