[FSPA] League questions - player opinions wanted

I've seen a lot of good comments to this thread and thought I'd throw in
another perspective, especially about the party. To me, the party isn't
about going to play pinball. I go to the parties to socialize for more
than the few minutes I might have in between games during a normal league
night, with others in the league. It is also a time for me to bring my
wife to meet some of the people she hears me talk about week after week.
Honestly, the pins at the parties are so crowded that more times than not,
I dont worry about playing them, and instead come back a few days later
when I can actually get to the machines without bumping into the masses of
people around the surrounding machines. If there was an appropriate
banquet hall or something else where there may be more room to socialize,
that would be fine with me. Living in Mount Airy, MD, the
Fredricksburg idea would be a non-starter for me. I'd counter by asking
how many of the Northern VA crowd would make the trip to York PA to go to
TimeLine? I suspect not many (Not that I'd recommend that - It's far too
crowded to handle our group!!)
As for the league format, I dont have a strong opinion. There are pros and
cons to everything I've experienced in the time I've been playing, and I
know there's no way to make everyone happy. It maybe would be good if
there was a way to move up and down the ladder quicker than 1 group per
week. Maybe somehow in proportion to the score differential in each game?
In otherwords, someone who got last and had a point stolen in every game
would move down further than someone who just barely lost each game? I do
also agree with the idea of having a way to enter the scores directly
instead of using the paper system. Obviously both of those ideas would
need significant software changes. I have no idea who manages/owns/wrote
the software, so I have no idea if it's reasonable.
My only other comment would be THANK YOU to you and all those who work so
hard to make this all work. For all the volunteer work you guys are
willing to do to run the leagues and get so many complaints, I just want to
make sure you know it's appreciated by everyone, even though you can't
always make everyone happy!! As someone else said, I am there to have fun,
and in the end, it's just a game. All the other stuff to me is just bonus,
and it's good to have the social interaction instead of just playing alone,
so I'll be there no matter what format the format is, so long as fun
remains the primary focus!
